We were headed to Kaokoland Namibia in search of the nomadic Himba people, and daylight was failing fast. We suddenly came across a small sign indicating camping at a cheetah farm 8km off the main road.
The gates were shut and the signs warned trespassers about some unpleasant consequences.
So, naturally, we opened the gate and headed in. Several gates later, we were starting to wonder. Merely a faint flicker of daylight remained. Just as we were about to give up, we found a small farm house surrounded by a high fence and signs that indicated we could inquire about camping by using a buzzer. Just don’t go in or you could get eaten – this family had cheetahs in their front yard! At every gate, there was a sign indicating that you were there at your own risk.
The risk is well worth it when you can get shots like these.
If you are ever in the area, definitely check out the Otjitotongwe Cheetah Guest Farm, Northern Namibia – you won’t regret it!
