Elder Himba Woman

The Himba are peaceful semi-nomadic people that live in the remote Koakoland region on northern Namibia.

Many people will see these people as poor and without modern medical, schools, electricity and the like.

I can tell you that they are warm, friendly, peaceful and giving people. While the red okra created by mixing ox fat and ground sandstone that coats their skin comes off easily while giving them a ride to market, their inner peace and commitment to family and friends will not.

They are an excellent example of the type of education I support. If you want it, I will help you get it, but my no means will I force you or recommend that you have to have it. More often than not we can learn from the simple pleasure of giving and laughter that fills their humble homes. It was an honor to visit with these people. The only trace we left behind is these images which I have sent to them. The impressions of kindness and giving that we took with us will last a lifetime.

Care to to step into their village? Then step away.
